Enthusiastic biomedical scientist with more than 15 years of experience in the field of molecular biology and epidemiology of viral infectious disease.

Led the task-force responsible for the generation of the first SARS-CoV-2 complete genomes in Latin America, within 48h upon first case report in 2020, in Brazil.

  •  Develops research in emergent pathogens genomic surveillance, as Principal Investigator on "ANGOLA & BRAZIL EMERGING PATHOGENS GATEWAYS (ANBRA) - Genomic surveillance of mosquito-borne virus and other emerging pathogens outbreaks across the Angola-Brazil corridor of mobility" project funded by the Serrapilheira Institute

Visiting Researcher - University of São Paulo, 7/2022 - current

  • Conducts researcher in emerging tropical diseases genomics and epidemiology such as arboviruses and respiratory viruses, focused on Dengue, zika chikungunya, yellow fever and COVID-19, in partneship with Dr Ester Sabino (USP) and Dr Nuno Faria (ICL-UK). Coordinates the Collaborative Genetic Sequencing Network in Brazil (Rede SEQV Br), a collaborative study focused on the genetic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2. Supervises master's students and serves as a lecturer in postgraduate extension courses.

Postdoctoral Researcher - University of São Paulo, 7/2019 - 6/2022

  • Conducted research on integrated surveillance of the Zika and Yellow Fever arboviruses, and was part of the team that sequenced the first genomes of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Brazil, as part of the Brazil-UK Centre for Arbovirus Discovery, Diagnosis, Genomics and Epidemiology (CADDE) initiative in collaboration with the Adolfo Lutz Institute and the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Led genomic surveillance studies of SARS-CoV-2 as a public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic and established and coordinated the Collaborative Genetic Sequencing Network in Brazil (Rede SEQV Br) in partnership with Dr. Ester Sabino.
