    Role Synopsis
    The Well Site Leader of the Future (WSLf) program is a structured program that will include Safety Leadership, Core Technical and Leadership Training to building Core Technical Skills, and Cross-Discipline learning / Broadening with a strong focus on Performance. The program also includes frequent progress reviews that will be used to verify that the WSLf candidates are progressing through the program.

    The Well Site Leader (WSL) role will support the planning and execution of well construction (drilling and completion), workovers, interventions, and subsea activities in alignment BP's Who We Are framework, conformance with the requirements of BP's Operating Management System (OMS), practices and procedures, and with local government regulations.

    The Well Site Leader of the Future (WSLf) candidate will be responsible for learning and building the vital skills and competencies to function in a Well Site Leader (WSL) role after they have completed (graduated) the program. The base case duration of the program is two to three years. The length of time the candidates spend in the program will depend on the level of skills to build, their pace of learning and the level of experience the candidates bring into the program.

    Successful candidates will report directly to the Well Superintendent (WSUP). They will work closely with the Well Site Leaders and Supervisors at the well site including all vendors, suppliers, and contractors.

    Essential Role Requirements
    Experience:
    Sufficient related well engineering or well operations experience including operator engineering experience. Experience working in and multi-disciplinary teams is helpful.

    Note: candidates with incremental validated experience will be considered in the selection process.

    Qualifications:
    Communication skills at all levels to be able to optimally learn the skills and competencies associated with the Wellsite Leader role and leading multi-disciplinary scopes of work.

    Education:
    Degree in engineering, science or technical field;

    Completion of WSLf training program may apply as part of the WSLf role and competency development plan dependent upon the experience of the selected candidates.

    Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

    • The Development WSL will work as part of a team, under the direction of the Senior Wellsite Leader.
    • Promote an inclusive workplace where speak-up is the norm.
    • Follow the WSLf Program to learn, understand, develop, build skills and competencies in their core technical field including cross-discipline learning.
    • Lead with supervision in well operation activities.
    • Verifying alignment to the site Safety Management System (SMS), Control of Work (CoW) procedures, Barrier Health, Risk Management and Self-verification & Oversight (SV&O) processes.
    • Advocate "stop the job" and "speak up culture".
    • Support the Senior WSL in reporting and documenting HSSE incidents, accidents and process safety events using the bp's safety reporting system.
    • Support the WSL and well Engineering in all daily operations planning and lookahead forecasts with all onsite vendors, suppliers, and contractors including workload prioritization to allow proper supervision during critical well operations.
    • Leading the maximising Efficiency program to improve operational performance
    • Verify procedural rigor around work done per approved procedures, running operational changes, and site meetings such as pre-job, pre-tour, after action reviews (AAR) and lessons learned (LL) for continuous improvement.
    • Support the WSL in the Daily Operations Reports (using OpenWells) for accuracy and content, daily cost tracking process, and reviewing all service providers, vendors and contractor's daily reports for content and accuracy prior to distribution.
    • Support and lead in contractors, suppliers, and vendors performance for all well operations such as KPI metrics; efficiency – productive, non-productive, and invisible lost time events, investigations, non-conformance; performance feedback.
    • Actively participate in assuring safe operations. Understand and support Stop the Job and speak up culture. Participate in risk assessments and in the event of any activity or program changes.

    While Working Onshore

    • Support well planning and learning process through input into drilling procedures, forward programs and active participation in BP's continuous improvement processes. Participate in Well Program reviews with the Engineering team and ensure onsite lessons are gathered and shared effectively.
    • Management and control of operational costs. Actively pursue cost saving and innovative solutions for well work operations.
    • Develop and demonstrate communication skills in finding opportunities safety improvements and improvements in operational efficiency.
    • Support systematic sharing of takeaways and procedures identified and collected at the rig site.

    Key Competencies

    • Field Specific: General Rig and Well Operations competency and development, Wellsite Leader leadership and competency development in-role.

    Development & Training

    • CBSP training, water survival and other training as required to obtain approval for travel to the offshore wellsite.
    • Complete and close out gaps identified in WSL competency assessment.
    • Valid Well Control Certificate (WellSharp or IWCF) for Drilling and Well Servicing for Surface and Subsea BOP desirable

    Key Relationships
    The Development WSL will need to cultivate relationships with the bp well operations team and with the rig contractors and well service personnel supporting the assigned rig. Other key relationships include the Wells Operations team and bp Wells Rigor Team (for engagement in training associated with skill development).
