    Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.

    This Datacenter Senior Electrical Engineer position will fulfill an on-site role at a Microsoft datacenter campus supporting ongoing construction activities. This role will serve as a daily on-site presence to review progress and support quality design of multiple concurrent datacenter builds. The position will be responsible for monitoring progress for compliance with construction documents from initial stages through commissioning and work closely with the engineering, procurement, controls and construction teams. Additionally, this role will provide project management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership on behalf of engineering throughout the construction lifecycle up to and including the turnover to Microsoft Datacenter Operations. As such they will support multi-discipline coordination, issue identification and resolution, continuous improvement efforts, and the ongoing documentation of project learnings for incorporation into future designs. Candidate will be required to work predominantly in the site construction offices as part of the cross functional delivery team. Located in Campinas, SP, Brazil .. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location. This role is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.

    Qualifications

    Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experienceOR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of electrical engineering experienceOR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience specific to datacenter electrical engineering.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, project specifications, and equipment submittals against construction activities to track progress and review potential issues.
  • Experience with the design and operation of electrical systems, power distribution systems, backup power systems, electrical power monitoring systems, the control diagrams, sequence of operation for the electrical controls systems, overall network architecture and communication protocols.
  • Fluency in Brazilian Portuguese and English.
  • Candidate will be required to work predominantly in the site construction offices as part of the cross functional delivery team. Located in Campinas, SP, Brazil. Occasionally, travel may be required %).
  • Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with mission critical or high-tech industry projects.
  • Registered Professional Electrical Engineer.
  • Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Responsibilities

    Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the on-site electrical engineering and project management representative throughout construction of a multi-year datacenter campus development.
  • Perform regular site walks and site inspections to observe progress, review construction versus design intent, review all benchmarking to ensure standard and quality are met, and flag potential concerns for engineering review.
  • Facilitate and participate in a close working relationship with all Microsoft site personnel – attending construction-based quality and assurance meetings, attend schedule and milestone review sessions, close monitoring of overall project management, Electrical, and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) related risk items with the Architectural Engineering (AE) subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, design guides/standards, sequences of operation, and commissioning documents for technical compliance.
  • Support and oversight of submittal review, Request For Invoice (RFI) responses, and commissioning activities.
  • Facilitate timely response and enable seamless project execution.
  • Possess a high level of understanding of commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a primary focus on datacenter design.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology including the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and requirements documents is essential.
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
  • Must possess excellent leadership competencies and a willingness to collaborate and work cross- functionally to maximize business results and positive customer experiences.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to be used at varying levels of business up to and including business executives.
  • Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and do so with an even temperament.
