The Department of Global Communications/Strategic Communication Division internship is for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours).

This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Rio de Janeiro, within the Information Centres Service, Strategic Communications Division, Department of Global Communications (DGC).

Duration: 6 months period in 2023.


Responsibilities:

Following the instructions and under the supervision of the National Information Officer (NIO) or the Digital Communications Assistant, the responsibilities may include but are not limited to:1) Digital content support for social media platforms:

  • Assist in the production of animations, cards, and other engaging visual assets for UN Brazil's social media accounts.
  • Editing videos and producing short video content for social media and websites, including preparing and embedding subtitles in English and Portuguese.
  • Assist in streamlining UNIC Rio's audiovisual assets by categorizing existing assets and compiling new materials and resources from UN System's sources.
2) Desk research support and mapping of entry opportunities for social media:

  • Compilation of recent data, figures and key messages from UN System's reports and publications related to the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, climate change, humanitarian action and human rights.
  • Assist in research on emerging opportunities to increase UN Brazil's digital presence, engagement in social media platforms, with a particular focus on raising awareness on climate change, human rights, and disinformation.
  • Assist in compiling of basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services about the UN.
  • Assist the work in translation from/to English of text or/and graphics.

3) Graphic design support:

  • Assist in the design of communications and outreach products, including brochures, leaflets, posters, cards, animation, and short publications.
Daily responsibilities will therefore depend on the needs of the Centre and will take into account.

Education

a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,

b.

Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's leavel or equivalent).


Applicants must also:

  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Portuguese and knowledge of English (at least read, write and translate) are required for the internship.
