***CPI offers a challenging environment that requires independent thinking, collaboration, and pragmatic problem-solving. The Senior Analyst role supports the deliverables of CPI's Brazil Climate Finance work stream, focusing on issues such as the mapping of financial ecosystems and the climate finance landscape, analysis of regulatory systems, and public policies. The work also focuses on analyzing the governance of financial mechanisms, including evaluating their allocation and effectiveness, and the design of innovative climate finance instruments that effectively align public and private interests.


Under the supervision of the Research Director in CPI's Rio de Janeiro office, the Senior Analyst will help execute CPI's strategy and build its analytical foundation.

They will implement complex research quantitative and qualitative assignments related to financial ecosystems and climate finance for the national and sub-national context.

Previous work experience with climate policy, finance, sustainable frameworks, and carbon markets, as well as knowledge and understanding of Brazil's regulatory institutions and/or multilateral or bilateral financial institutions and national or regional development banks and/or private financial institutions, are valuable assets.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to several work streams related to climate, finance, land use, infrastructure, and energy policy sphere, and broader financial, climate and sustainability topics.
  • Perform rigorous quantitative and qualitative evaluation of national and international finance channeled to Brazil and analyze existing climate finance mechanisms and sectoral policies.
  • Plan and implement collaborative research and data projects, coordinate input from CPI staff working around the globe, and deliver analytical tools for use in the climate finance agenda.
  • Develop and implement complex research assignments and analytical projects. Translate the concepts of climate finance analysis to impacts on different sectors and stakeholders (public and private, domestic and international, national and subnational).
  • Support relationships with analytic, advocacy, and other organizations, providing support to senior management.
  • Produce highquality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations.
  • Produce highquality materials that are fit for purpose time and within budget.

QUALIFCATIONS

  • BA or BS degree required with coursework in finance, economics, and policy. Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or a related, quantitatively rigorous field strongly preferred.
  • Experience analyzing climate finance, economics of policy choices, public expenditure and/or energy, and climate markets preferred.
  • Private sector and/or government or multilateral experience preferred.
  • Understanding of current climate, energy and sustainability policies under discussion in relevant countries, with a specific focus on the interaction with finance, and sectoral policies under discussion in Brazil, such as infrastructure, energy and/or land use sectors.

COMPETENCIES

  • Experience with data management and analytics (R or Stata), other languages would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and Securities Law would be a plus.
  • Experience in financial modeling and/or macroeconomic modeling would be a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a multicultural and geographically distributed team.
  • Superior Portuguese and English written and verbal communications skills.
