Main purpose of job:


The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK government department charged with promoting and financing international trade and development, and championing free trade.

In Brazil, DIT operates within the British Embassy in Brasília, and Consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife, with a team who work primarily through a number of sector specific export promotion campaigns.


This is a brilliant opportunity to work on one of the most important export campaigns for UK Government in Brazil.

Support business (exports and ODI) between the UK and Brazil in the Mining sector, and work to overcome market barriers in the Brazilian market that prevent British companies doing business in this specific sector.


The Business Development Manager for the Mining Sector in Brazil leads the Mining sector for DIT in Brazil to strengthening the trade & investment relationship between the UK and Brazil.

The UK has a long history of mining and boasts a strong, diverse range of companies working in the sector's supply chain.

Mining is an important sector in Brazil and your role will be to support UK investors and companies to do business in Brazil, with a special emphasis on innovation, technology and sustainability.

You will be responsible for leading a team of two people who will deliver on the DIT's network objectives in line with the main pillars of:


  • Trade Support work with UK investors and suppliers to develop opportunities and support business in Brazil.


  • Promotion

  • Showcase UK technology and innovation for the mining sector at traditional trade shows and new promotional forums.


  • Market Access

  • Identify and create action plans for the key market barriers facing UK companies doing business in the Brazilian mining sector.
You will need to be a self-starter, have a good business mind and excellent stakeholder and leadership skills. You will need to be confident in managing relationships with senior counterparts in the UK and Brazilian business community. You should be a good manager and believe in the development of your team members.


You will work as part of a wider UK in Brazil Network that seeks to ensure that our policy, trade and development work is aligned in order to increase clean, low-carbon and sustainable growth in Brazil, showcasing UK public and private sector expertise whilst maximising commercial opportunities for the UK and developmental gains for our partners.


Roles and responsibilities:


  • Plan, negotiate and deliver on ambitious goals aligned with the network objectives of: Trade Support, Promotion and Market Access. Conduct a detailed management of the sector's KPI's, creating contingencies when necessary and regularly reporting status updates to senior management. Design a longterm strategy for the mining sector in Brazil, communicate the plan and deliver medium and short term outcomes
  • Carry out a robust account management of UK investors, suppliers and potential buyers within the Brazilian mining sector. This will entail creating and regularly updating an account management document to follow all potential opportunities and delegate actions and contingencies to your team.
  • Work as one UK Government team in Brazil and collaborate with the regional leadership of the Mining sector (High Value Campaign
  • HVC) and teams from other sectors within the Brazil network with similar objectives
  • You will be based in Belo Horizonte but will have the responsibility of leading the Mining sector is for the whole of Brazil and, therefore, must consider regional outreach to states outside of MG, SP and RJ.

Leadership

  • Line manage an analyst and countersign for an intern colleagues, carrying out an appraisal process regularly. Supporting them in developing understanding of the Mining sector, their own career progression, and in developing their leadership and commercial skills
  • Support the DIT sector Manager and Regional Director for Mining in developing and implementing Brazil and Latin America and Caribbean strategies for this sector.
  • Support the effective running of the Belo Horizonte Consulate/Brazil Network through a range of potential activities.

Working patterns:

This is full time job (36 flexible hours a week) with working patterns to be agreed.

We invite applicants from across Brazil.

However, the nature of the mining sector and role means that the focus of time and effort will need to be in Minas Gerais.

Therefore, applicants must either live in Belo Horizonte or show that they will be willing and able to relocate to work from the Consulate in Belo Horizonte.
