Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a EHS Professional to join our Life Sciences business at our Cabreuva, Brazil location.

This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the ESH function. This position will report to Life Science EHS Lead.

Job Summary


Supervises activities related to safety, occupational health, & environmental safety for operations in Brazil to ensure the implementation of policies, preventive programs and internal audits, in order to ensure better working conditions, prevention of accidents & incidents in accordance with Responsible Care.

Position will also have responsibility for Ashland's Sao Paulo laboratory.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assessment of environmental aspects and hazards to occupational safety and health.
  • Perform ongoing verification of legal compliance in relation to EHS issues.
  • Communication with the neighborhood, community, certification bodies and public agencies in relation to EHS issues including CETESB, CB, MTE, City Hall, PF, PC, Army, IBAMA.


  • High Hazard Coordinator

  • Hot Work, Elevated Work, Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, etc.
  • Performance monitoring and preparation of the annual EHS performance report.
  • Communication with the internal public about contributions to the continuous improvement of the EHS management system;
  • Control of approvals of documented procedures in the management system.
  • Elaboration, updating and execution of simulated EHS emergency exercises.
  • Investigation of incidents and monitoring of action plans (corrective and improvements);
  • Management of responsibilities related to Specialized Services in Safety Engineering and Occupational Medicine, PPRA and PCMSO and preparation and communication of Service Orders.
  • Periodic environmental monitoring (noise and effluents), waste management and selective collection.
  • Implementation of the Safety Machine Program.
  • Determine the necessary competencies of people who carry out work under their responsibility and manage the actions necessary for their development.
  • Management of the ergonomic conditions of employees.
  • Verification of compliance with the necessary routines to ensure water potability cleaning of water tanks and monitoring of the quality of artesian wells.
  • Approval of warehousing, transportation and manufacturing service providers (tollers) in relation to EHS and monitoring of improvement actions.
  • Follows Ashland's Code of Conduct as well as Health, Safety and Environment guidelines.
  • Identifies areas needed for development. Recommends training programs and procedures to support strategic compliance plans. Carries out implementation of training programs and plans.
  • Expected to have ready answers to technical questions. Establish a skill area. Applies technical knowledge to negotiate regulatory compliance.
  • Good overall knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations and interpretations with specific knowledge Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Manage Responsible Care activities related to environmental, health and safety related standards.
  • Manage Operational Risk and Emergency Response.
  • Lead the efforts within the group of facilities that you have responsibility for to reduce the overall risk at each facility.
In order to be qualified for this role, you _must possess_ the following:

  • Complete Higher Education in Administration, Environmental or Safety Engineering.
The following skill sets are _preferred_ by the business unit:

  • Experience in Area of Occupational Safety & Team Management


  • Bilingual

  • Portuguese & English
