Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)


Main Purpose of Job:


The Human Resources Department leads the people strategy and operation for the Brazil Network of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, providing support to all employees, Heads of Section and the Brazil Network Board, as well as offering expertise in payroll, recruitment, performance management, employee relations and HR policy issues and processes.

Each post of the Brazil Network has a HR Business Partner, who are in charge of leading the HR team and HR issues at the respective post.

The person in this position will also be leading on a number of HR projects, being of significant importance for the new HR team structure, contributing to the establishment of a new HR approach within the Network.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Lead the HR team in Brasilia, providing expertise in leadership development, employee relations and HR policy issues and processes;
  • Support and advise managers of all seniority levels in Brasilia on staff issues/development/performance management;
  • Line manage direct reports providing training, development and coaching on department processes;
  • Lead one of the pillars on upcoming HR projects, such as welfare and development and other HR related projects.
  • Ensure frequent HR communications are issued, including supporting senior management at periodic meetings with nonoffice support staff.
  • Support the Deputy head of HR in the accurate and timely processing of the monthly LE payroll

Welfare and Development:


  • Lead on Portuguese language training and immersions for UKB;
  • Lead on performance management and appraisal system;
  • Lead on HR related training to all staff;
  • Work closely with the Mental Health Committee to ensure staff wellbeing; lead on wellbeing related campaigns,
  • Lead on seasonal flu vaccination, as well as PCMSO (Programa de Controle Medico de Saúde Ocupacional) and PPRA (Programa de Prevenção de Riscos Ambientais);
  • Act as Crisis Welfare Manager at post.
  • Be updated on the Brazilian labour legislation and FCDO guidelines and policies.

Resources Managed:

3 staff - Receptionist and 2 HR Interns

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • At least 2 years' experience in human resources as a generalist Consistent knowledge of Brazilian Labour Law
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in English and Portuguese
  • Experience with people's management
  • Able to multitask and prioritize accordingly
  • English and Portuguese fluency
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Undergraduate degree and other relevant professional qualification or experience

Working Patterns:


The British Embassy supports flexible working hours and the jobholder will have the opportunity to work remotely/from home on occasion.

Working hour per week: 36 hours (Mon - Thu: 8:30am to 4:45pm; Fri - 8:30am to 4:30pm)


Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
