The ICCT is pleased to announce the opening of an immediate opportunity for a highly committed and self-motivated researcher to support the policy on clean fuels and vehicles in Brazil.

This position provides an exciting opportunity for a master's degree or PhD level individual, with five to seven years of experience, to pursue their interests in transportation, the environment, and energy-related topics in Brazil.


This position will support ongoing ICCT work in Brazil on fuels, biofuels, national vehicle emission standards, and other strategies to improve the environmental and energy performance of the transportation fleet in Brazil.

This position will focus particularly on policy approaches and technologies necessary to reduce emissions from non-road transport sectors and heavy-duty vehicles, including advanced biofuels, hydrogen and electrofuels.

The Researcher position will provide the opportunity to work at the intersection of technical climate analysis, public policy and technology.

Representative work can be seen at the ICCT's fuels program page. The position will also interact with international ICCT Staff.


You Will:

  • Analyze vehicle, fuel, and transportation activity data from Brazil.
  • Analyze the lowcarbon fuel sector in Brazil, evaluating supply and demand and the decarbonization potential for transportation segments.
  • Model greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.
  • Estimate costs and benefits of vehicle emission reduction technologies and policies.
  • Estimate the emissions reduction potentials of different policy alternatives.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses of technology and operational strategies to reduce vehicle emissions.
  • Write clear, strong technical reports, policy briefings, and articles to summarize ICCT's research for key stakeholders.
  • Synthesize technical information into policyrelevant documents and presentations for both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including government officials, nongovernmental organizations, academics, and industry.

You Have:

  • Technical understanding of and interest in air quality, climate change, and transportation emissions, including vehicle and fuel regulations.
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation and analysis required; modeling and computer programming experience and skill desired
  • Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills with at least one of the following analytical and modeling tools: R or Python
  • Excellent research, analytical, and quantitative skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills and strong emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrated experience as an author or coauthor of academic papers, technical or policy reports, memos, briefing papers, and other forms of written communication in English.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision; highly organized, selfdirected, and strategic in problemsolving
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English is required
  • Availability for occasional national and international travel
Our Benefits


This position will be based in the ICCT's office in the Vila Madalena neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil, and will have a monthly salary of R$13,200.
