General:


We are looking for an enthusiastic Librarian for the Learning Resource Centre who will be responsible for helping the management of this important learning environment used by the whole school community.

It is expected that the Librarian will support and enrich pupils who read and utilize print and digital resources for curricular and personalized learning needs.

This is a bilingual (English and Portuguese) post; applicants must be fluent in both languages.

This is an academic support role, and the appointed person would work closely with the Learning Resource Centre team and the teaching staff.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Cataloguing books and other materials according to the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, observing the format MARC21, inputting data on the Heritage System and any other indexing system as established by the school.
  • Supervising the work of helpers and/or assistants with shelving of books, with physical processing of books and media materials, ensuring the Learning Resource Centre is kept tidy and orderly.
  • Managing the circulation of resources, establishing, and reviewing procedures to ensure the community is well served.
  • Providing full customer service to all enquiries. This means to teach users how to search on Heritage and other academic databases helping readers to find appropriate and relevant resources. Be seen as an acknowledged expert in resource and information provision and management
  • Selecting bibliographic materials and/or media materials with the aim of discarding them from the catalogue every time it is necessary and accept suggestions from the teachers about eventual withdrawn materials from the Learning Resource Centre
  • Promoting information that can be found in the Learning Resource Centre preparing eventual lists and/or bibliographies of new book acquisitions or other lists.
Participating and contributing to all the cultural events of the school, for example:
career's week, reading week and others.

  • Ensuring Learning Resource Centre users respect the rules of the centre and reinforce any measures necessary to ensure pupils and users are disciplined.
  • Applications will be considered as they arrive and the school reserves the right to appoint before the closing date._
