The Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) department plays an important role in not only addressing the company's commercial, institutional and regulatory needs as a trusted advisor, but also in mitigating risks and managing a wide and diverse litigation portfolio.


CELA BRAZIL has an immediate opportunity for an experienced professional to support its Government Affairs practice for the country based in Brasilia, Brazil.

The role will report to the Brazil CELA Lead and will work closely in coordination with the Corporate Affairs Director for LATAM, dedicated to the public policies and corporate/institutional topics regarding Brazil.

Responsibilities:


  • Be a trusted advisor and counselor to the CELA Brazil Leadership team as well as the business' Leadership team and helps them make important decisions managing public relations, ethics, policy, and regulatory risks in a challenging environment.
  • Work closely with subsidiary and regional CELA Government Affairs Director to define and execute key regional outreach and policy goals, managing government relations in support of Microsoft's public policy objectives.
  • Identify and advise on changes, opportunities and trends in regulations, law and policy relevant to Microsoft's business. Develop messaging for complex or strategic issues and work collaboratively with Public Relations professionals to communicate Microsoft's positions on issues internally and externally.
  • Build broad support for policy priorities by developing relationships with relevant associations, coalitions, alliances, and virtual communities.
  • Support field teams by leading policy reviews. Develop expertise to advise on privacy, and AI policy, security and provide content for regulated industries.
  • Connect field and corporate teams on topics, when necessary. Land and localize corporate content to LATAM and Brazil, building materials to support regional/local campaigns on government affairs and police topics relevant to Microsoft.
  • Develop policy white papers, studies, presentations and talking points for outreach to government leaders. Work on local messaging for complex or strategic issues in coordination with the communications team.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, or related field AND 4+ years experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.
  • OR 6+ years experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, or government.
  • Experience with government affairs matters and policy.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Portuguese.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of experience as a policy/government affairs professional with experience in cloud computing, privacy, technology and/or cybercrime.
  • Outstanding analytical ability and legal drafting skills.
  • Proven track record in proactively and intuitively establishing, building, maintaining and managing strong and positive relationships with clients, colleagues and government officials.
  • Deep understanding of the political process, culture and economic and political climate in Brazil. Strong understanding of the legal processes in congressional activity or other legislative bodies to pass a law, as well regulations and policies.
  • Strong work ethic and a track of compliance.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
  • Admitted to practice law in Brazil.
  • Deep familiarity with relevant legal issues such as data protection and privacy, artificial intelligence, face recognition, cloud related legal issues and imminent legislation, etc. is highly desirable.
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory issues pertaining to software and cloud services in regulated industries such as banking & financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, etc.
  • A demonstrated ability to master complex technology and policy issues, and evidence of excellent project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of time.
