The Site Lead has the overall responsibility for managing all construction activities at the site, in collaboration with the Project Manager and in accordance with the Project Execution Plan.

The Site Manager role is generally required for large scale projects where multiple construction managers and associated staff are required to execute the project.

The Site Manager acts as the Hatch representative for all relationships with the client/owner, local authorities, partners, contractors and vendor.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manages and is responsible for the following onsite functions:
  • Health, safety, environment and security
  • Quality assurance and quality control
  • Construction supervision
  • Field engineering
  • Site project controls
  • Site contract administration
  • Site materials management
  • Site administration.
  • Manages the day to day operations of the project site including associated facilities and services
  • Reports to the Project Manager on the progress of works and of any occurrence in the field that may affect the project execution
  • Maintains communication with the local community to establish trusting relationship
  • Ensures project complies with applicable national/international, provincial/state/territorial, municipal or local legislation and regulations
  • Maintains efficient and respectful relations with the client/owner on site, and reinforces the importance of client/owner relations and satisfaction within the site organization
  • Communicates construction cost and schedule performance to the key site team members and delegates/oversees the development of appropriate action plans
  • Site Manager or delegate will chair contractor kick off meetings, progress meetings and all other meetings for management of the site procedure and policies
  • Is responsible and accountable for the performance and capability of the members of the field organization to correctly and safely perform their tasks
  • Ensures that work is carried out in accordance with current and/or applicable codes, and standards, design deliverables (drawings, specifications, etc.).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Appropriate university degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Fifteen to twenty years experience in the design/constructability, implementation and management of construction sites for large scale industrial multidisciplinary projects
  • Demonstrates a focus and commitment to heath, safety and environment in the planning, design and construction phases of project delivery
  • Strong leadership skills, the ability to select, motivate and lead a large site team in a remote location, challenging environment, over a long duration
  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Efficient and above average skills in planning, organization, leadership, management and administrative processes
  • Demonstrates astute business acumen in the understanding and management of commercial contracts and risk
  • Strong customer/client focus with the ability to build and maintain relationships and communicate directly with the client on key issues in a timely, efficient and trustworthy manner
  • Effective coordination, organization and planning of community industrial relations including trade union relationships
  • Complete knowledge of and facility with engineering, procurement, construction, jobsite management, and other project related activities, their interfaces and interdependencies.
