Where you fit in?
Renewable Generation (RG) is an important and growing division of Shell Renewables and Energy Solutions (RES).

RG is a global team working from regional hubs that is responsible for RES's growth and profitable position in large scale grid connected renewable power generation; principally solar photovoltaics (PV), battery energy storage, and onshore wind.

The RG team Develops, Builds, Sells and Operates solar and wind assets either through organic growth or inorganically via acquisition of development "platforms" and portfolio companies.


The Construction Manager reports to the Head of Delivery Americas and will take direction from the EPC Manager assigned to the project.

This position is part of the Onshore Power Delivery team, led by the GM Onshore Global Delivery and Engineering.

The role is based in Brazil with most of the focus initially on Brazil-based onshore solar projects with the potential to expand to wind and other solar PV projects in South America.


What's the role?
Heze, a 741 MWp solar project in Minas Gerais near Janaúba Brazil, is nearing a final investment decision.

Provided support for such a decision, the NTP of the project would be in Q2 of 2023 with a COD expected in Q Shell is self-procuring the modules, trackers, power conversation stations, and High Voltage Long Lead Items, such as Main Power Transformers, Breakers, SPCS, and other 500kV critical items, which are all expected to be free-issued to an EPC Contractor.

An Owners Engineer (OE) will also be employed by Shell to monitor and provide assurance for the engineering and construction.


The success of the project relies on the ability of contractors and suppliers to deliver to their contracts, and Shell's ability to manage the interfaces between the various field service and equipment contractors.

The Construction Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the contractors and suppliers are progressing their respective field scopes on schedule and on budget, with an absolute adherence to Goal Zero safety and a focus on quality.

The Construction Manager will also ensure that the interfaces between the various contracts are effectively managed in the field, such as delivery of PV modules, trackers, power conversion systems, and the commissioning of trackers, and power conversion system and ensure such activities are actively managed by the EPC Contractor.

The Construction Manager will also provide continuous field presence, spending much of each day at the work front to enable and support the EPC Contractor and manage the on-site Owner's Engineers.

The Construction Manager will support overall construction collaborating directly with the EPC Contractor's supervisory personnel and field personnel to deliver efficient and safe execution.

The Construction Manager will be the first Shell point of escalation beyond the Owners Engineer and, will also work to avoid any change orders to cost or schedule by proactively planning the activities in the field, and work to minimize the impact of any change orders\


Key Responsibilities:


  • Working with contractors to set site safety (HSSE) standards, procedures, rules and regulations and proactively support a safety culture to deliver Goal Zero
  • Integrated management of the EPC Contractor, Owners Engineer, and Equipment Suppliers
  • Provide construction input during the preNTP phase of the project
  • Developing key Construction Execution deliverables during the preNTP phase of the project
  • Develop and assess key strategic and tactical decisions and framing them into the EPC Contractors Project Execution Plan
  • Ensuring compliance with EPC Contractor's rigorous work front management system
  • Demonstrating full commitment to Goal Zero goals in all project activities
  • Review with contractors the construction sequence to ensure a safe and efficient construction
  • Contribution to cost, schedule and resource management for construction deliverables
  • Verify and audit the value of work completed to substantiate contractor invoices
  • Work to avoid contractor change order claims, and if they do arise, work to mitigate their effects
  • Participate in constructability and construction management planning with EPC Contractor
  • Participate in risk workshops, SIMOPs, construction HAZIDS, etc. and reviewing and updating the Risk Register
  • Manage the interfaces and maintain good working relations with other stakeholders such as suppliers, project development, landowners, asset management
  • During execution, perform effective management of the field contractors
  • Stimulate learner mindset and collate and feedback lessons for ongoing and future projects
  • Coordinate with Contractors, Delivery and Asset Management teams to enable effective commissioning and handover process
