The Associated Press seeks a journalist with a history of successful television and online video storytelling to join AP's Latin America team as a video output producer based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Reporting to a deputy news director in the AP's Latin America region, the producer will primarily produce, write and edit video stories for AP's global broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms.


Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for safeguarding video edits and storylines in meeting AP's journalistic standards for accuracy, speed, balance and fact-based, objective reporting.

You will use video, graphics and editing techniques to deliver visual engaging journalism, working in close collaboration with all-formats staff in the AP's Latin America region and around the world.

As members of a dynamic, round-the-clock operation, you must also contribute reporting in other media formats — including text, photos and audio — to help produce a competitive and comprehensive all-formats news report.

You must have the ability and willingness to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.


We're looking for a producer who will: demonstrate superior skills in video production and editing, working under pressure to prioritize and publish video to customers accessing content via different platforms amid the chaos of breaking news.

provide creative feedback on how to sequence video in compelling ways, drawing upon a track record of conceptualizing and implementing creative digital projects.

exercise excellent editorial judgement, a robust knowledge of regional and global news and a commitment to high production values, with the ability to communicate and drive stories that people will want to watch and share.

have strong communication skills and work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.

pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP's standards for integrity and objectivity.
- and long-term projects. You should have strong experience editing non-linear videos, preferably with Adobe Premiere. You must work effectively in a deadline driven, dynamic and competitive newsroom environment, and you should understand how video content is consumed across a variety of devices and platforms. Applicants should have at least three years of full-time news experience as a video producer and/or editor at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.


Other qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Authorization to work in Brazil or other major Latin America hubs will be mandatory.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English and Spanish. Competency in other languages is a plus.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats.
