Role Purpose


Join our team as an Arts Manager and embark on an exciting journey of creativity and cultural enrichment As a key collaborator, you will work closely with the Head of Arts, playing a vital role in implementing captivating activities in the country.

Your efforts will be directed towards unleashing the potential of the Arts, amplifying its impact through our distinguished global programmes:
Culture Connects, Spotlights on Culture, Creative Economy, and Arts Responds to Global Challenges.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following

  • Provides specialist input and design to help ensure activities under the Arts global programmes are relevant to the Arts and creative industry sectors in country.
  • Actively collaborates with colleagues in Arts global teams on programmes
  • Uses digital platforms and technological advancements to improve efficiency, impact and quality of activity design and delivery
  • Incorporates specific actions to address equality, diversity and inclusion priorities in programme delivery
  • Uses their own knowledge of the country's arts and creative industries, intelligence and insight from other sector partners, to support the implementation of global arts programmes that meet the specific needs of the country while also providing value to UK arts and creative industry organisations.
  • Through ongoing relationships with Global arts colleagues, builds and maintains good understanding of UK arts and creative industry sector priorities.
  • Identifies opportunities for the UK Arts sector to work in and collaborate with peers in country
  • Undertaking programmespecific data collection as needed, working with colleagues to identify indicators and tools for data collection, quality assuring, and undertaking analysis.
  • Has relationships with delivery partners and stakeholders within country and is able to procure services and contract delivery partners.
  • Holds suppliers to account for delivering against contract.
  • Build strong internal relationships and networks
  • Responsible for internal and client, procurement, contracting, compliance, and reporting
  • Ensure sound financial planning, working closely with finance teams to ensure British Council and client financial year plans are up to date.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly (re)forecasting is in place, by running regular reports in the SAP system on actuals, monitoring outstanding purchase orders, reviewing commitments, analysing and commenting on reasons for variances to plan and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitoring monthly finances, including correct expenditure.

Requirements of the role

  • Good knowledge and understanding of current trends and practices in at least one sector of the arts and creative industries in the country
  • Experience of working on national arts/ creative industry projects
  • C1 Portuguese
  • B2 English or equivalent
