Benthic is looking to add a highly diligent and meticulous
QHSE Manager to the team in Rio.

The QHSE manager is responsible for the matters related to quality, health, safety and environmental (or ESG - Environmental, safety and governance), for six business units located in Brazil; Benthic, UTEC, InterMoor, 2H, Pulse and Deepwater, and any other that starts doing business in Brazil, and reporting directly to the QHSE Head, Americas.


Duties

  • Support the implementation of Group and business QHSE strategy locally
  • Provide advice, guidance, and act as a QHSSE point of contact for all levels of the businesses
  • Act as the local senior management's copilot providing expert health and safety advice, you will be the 'moral compass' for the business and the nominated health and safety engineer under Brazil legislation for all Brazil businesses
  • Provide environmental management systems advice, and support the businesses efforts to reduce their carbon footprint
  • Provide quality management advice, including promoting Lean/5S programs
  • Support employee participation via the establishment and operation of local works councils/committees
  • Facilitate periodic management performance reviews, with a strong focus on health and safety; advise on improvement objectives and key performance indicators
  • Risk assessments are owned by the businesses. You will provide coaching and training on risk assessment, and where necessary support businesses where expert health and safety input in the risk assessment process is required
  • Management and maintenance of the HSE legal registers, and liaise with local regulatory bodies as necessary
  • Act as the information coordinator for major incidents
  • Lead, manage and facilitate incident investigations; monitor reports in our group reporting system, adhering to the principles of litigation privilege as necessary
  • Conduct regular site visits and assess compliance, develop and monitor improvement plans and encourage improvement via coaching colleagues and management at all levels
  • Encourage and improve Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) reporting and support cost reduction initiatives
  • Manage your time in accordance with the agreed allocation across the businesses, and escalate to the QHSE Americas Lead when work demands exceed resource availability

Required

  • Holds Portuguese qualifications to satisfy NR4 (and NR7 for Platform) legislation, >100 headcount, risk category
  • Minimum of 5years' experience in a fulltime health and safety role, preferably in a heavy engineering manufacturing/technology industry
  • Good awareness of environmental management systems and carbon reduction programs
  • A working knowledge of ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO900
  • Good written and fluent spoken English and Portuguese
  • Valid driving license, passport and no legal restrictions on international travel
  • Medically fit to carry out onsite visits which may involve work at height, in confined spaces, light manual handling, the need to read signs, engage in verbal communication. Capable of completing offshore training and medical if necessary an ability to swim is essential
  • Able to work away from home for short periods, if necessary, sometimes at short notice
