What's the role?

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Theme Development and Assessment

  • Oversight and management of budget expenditure for projects delivered under his/her responsibility, guaranteeing the Levy compliance.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify key technology themes of strategic importance to the Low-Carbon Technologies and which can be developed through externally funded R&D projects: formulate appropriate development and execution strategies
  • Plan, facilitate and participate in technology workshops and other stakeholder events to develop an indepth understanding of the technology challenges and opportunities facing NBS (naturebased solutions), in particular soil science, and potential routes to solutions.
Proposal Management

  • Align the projects under her/his responsibility with third parties with Shell Strategy.
  • Develop and make recommendations with respect to optimisation of its portfolio through value analysis, maximising R&D levy qualification and value delivered, building relationships with strategic partners, creating value for Shell and guaranteeing the real translation of the benefits to the company.
  • In conjunction with internal and external stakeholders review and rank project proposals in line with the Low-Carbon Energy Programme strategic requirements, with particular focus on the assessment of business value to Shell and project risk management and mitigation.
  • Liaise with potential partners to ensure a common understanding of the technologies to be developed, and provide technical support to the development of cooperation agreements to the strategic benefit of Shell.
  • Undertake the necessary due diligence and develop the necessary materials to take projects through the appropriate internal sanction process and provide the required technical and project management input to the finalisation of contracts with supplier(s)
Project Management

  • Provide project management expertise to ensure effective and timely delivery of Technology projects.
  • Set, agree and monitor performance standards for projects ensuring compliance especially HSSE and Ethics & Compliance standards/policies relevant to the R&D activities undertaken by suppliers and Universities.
  • Work closely with the developers and other funders to ensure that the sponsors' requirements are being met and if required, provide project management support to the developer team: meet with the developers on a regular basis to ensure that targets are being achieved and give project direction.
  • Ensure that projects are professionally managed and are driven to deliver the agreed outputs within budget, interfacing with Shell technical experts and assets as required.
  • Progress projects in the Technology maturation tollgates
Relationship Management

  • Identify appropriate stakeholders and engage/manage relationship(s) at appropriate level. This extends to other oil and gas companies, Universities, State and Federal Research Councils, Regulatory authorities e.g. ANP, CNPq etc.
  • Manage project relationships to ensure appropriate oversight of the projects, identify and maintain engagement in the programmes from the participants and promote integration between work streams towards a common goal.
General

  • Maintain surveillance of the wider technology arena, and track developments, competitor and supplier activity with potential relevance to the Low-Carbon Energy agenda: attend relevant industry conferences, maintain networks of contacts etc.
  • Represent Shell at meetings/conferences, give presentations and write technical articles as needed.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally: share knowledge with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

What we need from you?

  • Technical and analytical expertise in research and development;
  • Solid knowledge in Project Management;
  • Must have an Agronomist or Forestry degree.
  • Soil Science Phd is desired.
  • Competence to identify technology needs that soil science can unlock the potential and to link it with the best suitable partners (University or suppliers);
  • Skill in Project Management and Stakeholder Management is desired.
  • The ability to work productively with a range of personnel and disciplines, both within Shell Technical and the Shell assets and both technical and nontechnical;
  • Fluent in both written and spoken Portuguese and English is essential;
  • Knowledge on the Levy requirement in Brazil from ANP
  • Good interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
  • Must be a good written and verbal communicator, able to present and summarise issues concisely
  • Must be a clear thinker, able to assimilate and analyse a wide range of information and generate pragmatic solutions;
  • Ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders;
