About the Lab

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (The Lab) is a public-private initiative that identifies, develops, and launches cutting-edge climate finance instruments.

It aims to drive billions of dollars of private investment into climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries.

Since launching in 2014, The Lab and its initiatives have successfully launched 62 new innovative financial instruments, have been endorsed by the G7 and collectively attracted USD 3.5 billion through the instruments that were endorsed by the Lab Members.

Over the years the Lab has launched three regional programs of India, Brazil and Southern Africa.

Since the launch of these regional initiatives, starting with India in 2015, followed by Brazil in 2016 and most recently Southern Africa in 2019, these regional Labs have been working in parallel with the overall Lab to develop innovative financial instruments or program focusing on the specific geography with the potential to scale-up private sector investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate adaptation, and/or sustainable land-use of climate finance related products.

The Lab will launch a Philippines stream to support the development of one financial instrument in 2024, with plans to expand this into a broader Asia-Pacific regional program in subsequent years.

Position Summary

The Lab is seeking a motivated and experienced Consultant at the Senior Associate/Manager level to join the Lab Secretariat, Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), to support the launch of, and ultimately lead, a new regional stream of the Lab, in the Philippines region.

This is a growth-oriented role with opportunities to move into a leadership role overseeing the full Asia-Pacific Lab program once launched.

The Lab Consultant will work in close cooperation with the Lab Associate Director and other CPI staff around the world to push forward the development of new climate finance funds and innovative finance solutions in the Philippines.

In addition to analytical work which requires strong quantitative and analytical skills, the Consultant will support communication and engagement with a range of partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres in the Philippines, as well as with CPI teams around the world.

This role requires an individual who can seamlessly balance both aspects of the role - conducting top tier sustainable finance analysis and research while effectively managing and growing stakeholder relationships internally and externally.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Instrument Analysis & Development_
Perform rigorous quantitative and qualitative evaluation of national and international climate finance mechanisms (e.g. funds, guarantees, debt instruments, payforsuccess, carbon market innovations, credit products, insurance, etc.).
Under the direction of the Lab Associate Director and Manager, contribute to the design, management, and implementation of innovative / blended finance instruments (starting with leading the development of one instrument for the Philippines program in 2024)
Analyze the quality of financial instruments' ideas submitted to the Philippines Lab stream in relation to Lab criteria (Innovative, Actionable, Catalytic, and Financially Sustainable) communicating results to CPI staff.
Assist in the writing and editing of highquality Lab products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations.
Produce highquality materials on short deadlines
Stakeholder Engagement_
Support the Lab's outreach initiatives to build network of public, private, and philanthropic institutions in the region
Support outreach for the 2024 Call for Ideas, to maximize the pool of submissions received for the 2024 Lab Cycle, and ensure high quality ideas are received for the Philippines Lab stream
Lead stakeholder engagement with Philippinesbased stakeholders, proponents, and other key external stakeholders
Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe.
