The Field Scientific Leader (FSL) is a field Medical Affairs professional with high scientific knowledge in the assigned therapeutic area.

The FSL is responsible to offer scientific support related to AstraZeneca assigned molecules to Health Care Professionals (HCPs) and others Key External Experts (KEEs) and to lead scientific partnerships in main hospitals/institutions in the assigned territory, with in-depth knowledge of the patient journey in which account and its needs.

By being responsible for understanding local scientific needs, the FSL bridges local and national strategies for the assigned products.

The FSL has medical KPIs (MA contact, visits, # of scientific events, etc.) but, as a Medical Affairs professional, commercial KPIs are not applicable.


Main Responsabilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and scientifically engage Regional Medical Societies, Hospitals/Institutions, Payers, Health Care Professionals (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, etc) and Key External Experts (KEEs) in accordance with the medical strategy of the therapeutic area, planning, organizing, and executing field activities with strictly scientific content on the therapeutic area, fomenting scientific discussions and medical updates for health care professionals.
  • Share information with healthcare professionals on clinical trial that are relevant to their area of expertise and discuss treatment trends.
  • Prospect, organize and carry out scientific events (MSL events, Symposiums, Scientific Exchanges, Advisory Boards/Expert Panels, nonpromotional standalone event, Meet the Professor, etc.) with KEEs and HCPs according to their relevance in the patient journey for the related disease.
  • Provide lectures at scientific events for health professionals in accordance with the field medical communication strategy.
  • The FSL may carry out education activities for patients and the lay public in compliance with all local and global rules.
  • Provide and/or assist in training for AstraZeneca's internal customers for better scientific understanding of the molecule or disease area.
  • Provide and/or assist in training the Sales Force on diseases and treatments, acting act as technical/scientific support in the field, as previously agreed with the manager.
  • Discuss and assist the KEE with study proposals (ESR or Local Study) and/or publications of interest to AstraZeneca Brazil.
  • Assist with local or global clinical study projects in the therapeutic area, liaising with Clinical Research Operations whenever applicable (Site Initiation Visits participation, Investigators Meeting participation, assist recruitment improvement, etc.).
  • Scientifically engage payers, and conduct medicalscientific lectures, according to the medical strategy of the therapeutic area aligned with the Key Account Plan through OneKAM concept.
  • Understand indepth the patient journey and scientific needs for assigned institutions, proposing and executing sciencebased partnerships.
  • Share key insights obtained during peertopeer interactions or during scientific meetings (local, national, and international congresses) with relevant internal team, contributing to medicalscientific communication plan and brand medical strategy creation.
  • Assist newly admitted FSL through mentoring processes according to the local Buddy Program for a period of 6 months (2 months prior to certification and 4 months after).

Education, Qualification, Skills and Experience

Minimum

  • Health Care Academic Degree;
  • Knowledge in Clinical Research, Biostatistics and Design of Clinical Studies;
  • Basic knowledge of presentation, negotiation and leadership techniques;
  • Basic knowledge of market access and pharmacoeconomic;
  • Skill in interpersonal network relationship with internal and external customers;
  • Scientific experience (clinical, academic) to conduct discussions with opinion leaders, KEEs and HCPs;
  • Basic knowledge in project management;
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Availability for business trips;
  • Basic understanding of pharmaceutical business;
  • English fluency.

Desirable

  • Advanced academic degree (master's, doctorate, posDoc);
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry as well as familiarity with regulatory affairs, clinical research and field medicine;
  • Experience with team and interteam work.
  • Previous experience as a MSL (Medical Science Liaison) or equivalent;
  • Excellent skills in presentation techniques;
