WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER:


Protecting lands and freshwater initiatives:


Together and in close collaboration with Brazil External Affairs (XA) teams, we will create and manage a portfolio of initiatives to strengthen and whenever possible expand Protected Areas in the Brazilian Amazon, evaluating and developing policy, governance, innovative economic and financial mechanisms that can guarantee native vegetation conservation and efficiency on protecting nature and communities that depend on those territories.

We will also explore Other effective area-based conservation measures (OMEC) to tackle threats to Undesignated Areas and other critical areas that are not formally protected.


Leveraging Conservation initiatives:


We will work with the public sector and key stakeholders to promote, propose, adapt, and co-develop innovative partnerships at the local and state levels to support our ambitious 2030 conservation goals, helping channel resources and orchestrate large scale & high impact public and private initiatives.

We will also support our External Affairs (XA) team on the development of a national level advocacy and public policies strategy for Protected Areas, that can leverage our initiatives in the Amazon biome.


Transforming conservation protection culture:


In close collaboration with other Hubs in the Brazilian Amazon and TNC's global, regional and national teams, we will engage with key stakeholders, developing transformative partnerships and initiatives that can promote a culture for protecting natural resources and critical landscapes.

We will support, generate and disseminate critical information and analysis about the ecosystem services provided by protected areas in the Brazilian Amazon, helping society value those territories.

All of that will be done fostering ample, transparent, inclusive, and equitable participation in protected areas initiatives and dialogues, prioritizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IP&LC) and all other appropriate safeguards.


WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU:


We are looking for you to bring a relentless desire to preserve and restore our most precious ecosystems, paired with consistent expertise in protected areas (SNUC - Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação da Natureza), public policy, finance and multi-stakeholder engagement.

Global, regional, and local teams will look for your guidance on strategies to secure and expand the areas under some form of legal, governance, community and/or economic protection in the Brazilian Amazon.


Reporting directly to the Brazilian Amazon Director, you will lead the Protected and Undesignated Areas Hub in the Brazilian Amazon, developing strategies and managing a small portfolio of initiatives that aim to strengthen currently protected areas, and finding innovative solutions for undesignated areas and other territories under threat.

Your toolbox may include creation of Conservation Units, Public-private partnerships, Sustainable Forestry Management, multi-stakeholder governance mechanisms, REDD+ and Carbon projects and other innovative solutions that will support our 2030 goals and help channel resources to the most impactful initiatives.


You will be the reference person at the local and state levels, proactively engaging internal and external stakeholders to provide guidance, assess needs and mobilize the necessary capacity to support and leverage TNC and partner organizations' initiatives.

You will also support and work in collaboration with TNC's XA, Science, IP&LC teams, other Conservation Strategies and Communication teams at the national and global levels.


Responsibilities & Scope:


  • Proactively follow and promote our Code of Conduct both internally and externally, continuously, and consistently demonstrating alignment with our values.
  • Collaboratively develops a strategy for guaranteeing longterm sustainability and efficiency of existing Protected Areas in the Brazilian Amazon.
