Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)


The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK ́s international economic department in charge of supporting British companies to export overseas.

In Brazil, DBT operates within the British Embassy in Brasilia, and Consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife, primarily through anumber of sector specific export promotion campaigns.

Within DBT, DSE Brazil is the team charged with supporting British companies from the Defence and Security Exports (DSE) sectors to Brazil.


The purpose of this exciting role is to identify and develop business opportunities for UK companies in the Defence, Cybersecurity and Public Security sectors.

The post-holder will assist the Brazil Head & LATAC Lead for DSE to develop a Brazil and LATAC strategy for these sectors, as well as monitor market and competition activity and provide insightful advice on market and business environment.


  • Assist UK companies in their efforts to enter the Brazilian market.
  • Deliver on the objectives established by the UK ́s Defence Export Strategy and Cyber Security Export Strategy.
  • Develop strategic relationships with local and UK contacts and stakeholders
  • Raise awareness in the UK of the trade opportunities in the Defence and Security sectors in Brazil.
  • Plan and execute trade promotion activities such as trade fairs, trade missions and webinars.
  • Identify and nurture relationships with established representatives in the sectors, viewing at providing qualified input for UK companies regarding potential agency or venture agreements.
  • Develop quality market intelligence and assessment reports.
  • Work in an integrated manner with DBT ́s Financial Services, Engineering & Aerospace, Infrastructure, Health Sciences and Energy, to deliver on the DSE ́s goals in compliance with the UK ́s Cyber Security Strategy.
  • Support the DSE Head (HEO) in developing a Latin America and Caribbean strategy for those sectors.
  • Line Manage the DSE Commercial Analyst
  • Support DSE and wider DBT in delivering Foreign Direct Investment targets and Market Access Objectives.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):
1 x A2 DSE sector assistant. 1 intern. Local travel and entertainment budget.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Broader knowledge of the Brazilian Defence market.
  • More than one year of experience in managing strategic accounts.
  • Demonstrable understanding and interest in defence & security policy and strategy.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • More than one year of experience in business development.
  • Knowledge of the Cybersecurity environment.
  • Previous exposure and networking within the Brazilian Defence sector.
