Business Need / Purpose of Role


The
Accountant Assistant reporting to the Senior Accountant will provide administrative and general financial business support to assigned team handling a variety of functions to ensure that operations and internal and external customer needs are met.


Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various support activities to execute accounting routines and standards, ensuring the accuracy of accounting reports and compliance with terms.
  • Assist in the development of accounting rules within the financial management system.
  • Keep uptodate with ancillary obligations related to taxes, social security, and corporate areas, in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Analyze invoices, ensuring fiscal and tax compliance.
  • Operate the financial/accounting system, ensuring correct issuance and accounting coding in line with company standards.
  • Conduct employee payroll accounting, ensuring accuracy in entries and tax collection. Other activities related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative, exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Ability to think logically, establish and follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and reprioritize tasks in response to unexpected changes in priorities or processes.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze narrative and statistical data analyze problems, consider options, formulate strategies, and make practical recommendations.
  • Possess organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize, be detail oriented and results driven.
  • Possess high energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Must possess an advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills, problemsolving, and attention to detail are paramount; accuracy is a must
  • Ability to compose balances of accounting accounts
  • Knowledge of financial management and accounting systems.
  • Must have an advanced communication (verbal, written and listening) skills in order to communicate at different levels throughout the organization.

Education, Qualifications, Certifications, and Licenses

Education/Experience:


  • Degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related major in a public or accredited private academic institution desired, but not required
  • Experience with payroll and strong knowledge of related practices
  • Experience with tax withholdings and tax legislation
  • Experience with invoicing
  • Experience in process improvement and/or lean six sigma processes
  • Prior experience in Shipping, Freight Forwarding, or Transportation/Logistics or Maritime industry preferred, but not required
  • 13 years related work experience required
