WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER:

The Amazon IPLC Rights Advisor will build a human rights-based approach to TNC's work that impacts Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the Amazon Basin, including priority regions of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

The Advisor will also provide support in the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, Chaco, and Orinoco.

They will advise, connect and support country programs on Indigenous and community rights and related issues including their portfolio development, safeguards and MEL processes.

The Advisor will collaborate closely with a counterpart focused on other geographies, and with other colleagues in Latin America, and will share learnings and insights with colleagues supporting IPLC rights and leadership in other regions and at the global level.

WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU:

The Advisor brings technical expertise and lived experience in Indigenous and community rights and equity across numerous priority focal areas connected to conservation in the region, including gender and intergenerational equity, livelihoods, financial inclusion, bioeconomy and market development.

They understand the promise and pitfalls of carbon sequestration and benefit-sharing and are able to navigate and articulate the tensions inherent in these global strategies to address climate change and reverse biodiversity loss in the Amazon.

They understand robust and culturally responsive monitoring and evaluation, and are comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative metrics.

They know all pertinent UN rights frameworks and have a deep knowledge of Indigenous and community organization and claims-making in the Amazon.

They advise country program teams on specific issues and are able to respond in a timely manner to questions and needs that arise.

The Advisor builds on the deep experience of country programs and establishes the Conservancy as a key partner in this space, building internal capacity and external partnerships in support of this work.

Working closely with TNC IPLC teams in relevant country programs, across the Latin America Region, and globally, they bring together guidance, best practices, case studies, templates, curricula and networking opportunities to support the adoption of key strategies and learning and sharing, to meet our commitments to respecting human rights in all our work.
